THIS OFFER HAS BEEN PROVIDED; applications are no longer being accepted for this position.
The official offer is here (emploi.cnrs.fr) The general motivation is to understand “quantum turbulence” or “superfluid turbulence”. The job consists in testing experimentally an analytical model accounting for the dynamics of vorticity in superfluid flows, and improving the model if needed.
Advisors: Philippe-Emmanuel Roche, Benoît Chabaud.
Activities
Several superfluid wind-tunnel facilities (T < 2.18 K) and some unique instrumentation are available for this project (anemometers, quantum vortex probe…). Using these tools, the post-doc jobs will consist in: - Generating a well-controlled reference flow - Characterize its turbulence properties with existing probes - Test and improve a dynamical model accounting for vortex line density - Produce scientific publications and presentations.
Depending on the tastes and abilities of the post-doc, it will be possible to work also on sensors improvement, or post-processing of numerical data generated by our collaborators on this project (http://qute-hpc.math.cnrs.fr/).
Skills
A solid experience is needed in (a least) one of the fields : - Turbulence - Cryogenics at 4K - Flow instrumentation
Besides, other essential qualifications are : - strong academic records - PhD in Physics or Fluid Mechanics - Good skill in data processing and programming - Good skill in scientific communication (written and oral) - High ethical standards, - Good knownledge in English (written and spoken). French is optional.
Work Context
The Institut NEEL ( http://neel.cnrs.fr ) is a CNRS laboratory for fundamental research in condensed matter physics, with strong connections with the Université Grenoble-Alpes. About 450 people are working in it. It is localized in the city of Grenoble, in a very rich international scientific environment, surrounded by French Alps mountains. Additional Information
Please upload on the website - CV including a publication list and a URL link to PhD manuscript. - A short letter describing professional goals
Besides, for the purpose of recruitment interview, 2 reference letters should be sent directly by their authors (and not by the applicant) to recruiters.
Start date can be between October and December 2019.
